What is the status of LiteFS?

I see that LiteFS cloud is discontinued. Can somebody tell me what the status of LiteFS is ? What is supported by Fly and what isn’t ? Can LiteFS be used independently of Fly ? What is the future of LiteFS itself ? Should I even be thinking about using LiteFS in our new project ?

Thanks, Warren Bell

Hi… LiteFS itself (as opposed to LiteFS Cloud) is in a workable but not 100% polished state, in my opinion. Here’s the official view:

Also, a fellow user has released a replacement for LiteFS Cloud, based on the original source code.

It’s reasonable to consider! (I’m thinking of doing so, myself.) I would budget a bit of extra schedule for development and tinkering time, though. I.e., it’s more work and adjustment than just spinning up Postgres would be…

Basically nothing, unfortunately, at least as far as opening Support tickets, etc. (The same is true of the existing Fly Postgres, incidentally.) They recently spelled this out at the bottom of the Support page, although it’s a little easy to miss:

https://fly.io/docs/about/support/#scope-of-support

I suspect that serious bugs would get patched, however, on the basis of an open source project.

Looks like it can! A different fellow user mentioned using it in an IoT setting, recently.

Hope this helps a little…

This should be changing, and soon.
