Hi, I read some posts and I’m not sure about something. Here is an example:
I have a machine that is shared-cpu-1x@512MB that gets billed 3.19$ every month
Would I be able to use this setup for free forever or the 5$ credits are one-time
- No, it is not free forever, as there is no free tier.
- There is a one-time $5 credit.
- The lowest plan is the “hobby” plan which is $5/month. The “launch” plan is $29/month.
- The “hobby” plan includes $5 of usage. The “launch” plan includes $29 of usage.
- There is some free usage included in each plan also.
- Edit: There is also a “legacy hobby” plan which is $0/month and also includes the free usage stated in 5 which would give a free tier to grandfathered users.

hmm. i dont pay nothing and i still use 3 machines. i think there is a free tier
If you have an older account, there is a “legacy-hobby” account which does have a free tier.

This free tier has the free usage.
yeah im on the legacy one. but is it any better. can you update the info you said before according to the legacy hobby plan
hi @Zlatislav
Legacy Hobby Plan: Fly.io Resource Pricing · Fly Docs
Free allowances: Fly.io Resource Pricing · Fly Docs
Hi @andie i cannot really understand. can i start paying for usage on fly.io or am i locked in to always free, until i downgrade my plan and then upgrade. i just want to pay for usage and not 5$/month. i do hobby projects so i cant really start paying right now
(sorry for my bad english)
If you have the Legacy Hobby Plan, then you do not pay a monthly subscription fee. You’ll be charged for any usage over the free allowances. So yes, you can pay just usage, and not $5/month.
(BUT if you create a new organization, then the new organization will be on the $5/mo Hobby plan.)
That’s nice
This question comes up a lot. There has to be a better way to communicate it. Maybe something like:
- All plans are based on usage, but indicate a minimum spend. A minimum spend of $29/month gets email support, etc.
- Other than the legacy hobby plan, there is a minimum of $5/month for each organization.
- There is free allowance of 3x256MB machines for each organization.
- There is a one-time $5 credit to try out the services.
Also 3GB free volumes
