I’ve been hosting a Ghost blog for a friend for about a year now on fly.io. Volume snapshots weren’t a thing when i set it up, and i never got around to implementing backups. Stupid me.
Yesterday, i hosed the database during an upgrade. Murphy’s law and all that. Imagine my surprise when I found snapshots and got the whole thing running again in under 10 minutes. I was also able to migrate to a region closer to me like I’d been meaning to.
This is an unbelievably good experience because I can forget backups until i actually really need one. I don’t need historic versioning. I just need to undo my fuck up from five minutes ago. Thank you so much!
Also i freaking love wireguard and IPv6 to bring fly networks everywhere. I wish every dumb cloud worked like this.
