Announcement: Bucket Sharing on Tigris

We are excited to announce that Tigris now offers a simple way to share your bucket with other users in your organization. Inspired by Google Drive, we aimed to create a user-friendly experience that simplifies the process, moving away from the complexities of traditional IAM methods.

Stay tuned for upcoming enhancements to the sharing feature, including the ability to share specific objects or prefixes, set expiration dates, create access keys, and facilitate cross-organization sharing.

Is this only for access in the UI?

Are buckets accessible to all by default?

What happens if the owner leaves the fly.io organization?

Are fly.io admin able to access all buckets regardless of sharing?

This feels like it could complicate management even further. Buckets shouldn’t be owned by any individual user, they should be owned by the organization.

Hi @charsleysa

Is this only for access in the UI?

Yes in this initial release. As mentioned in post, we are working to advance this feature in stages.

Are buckets accessible to all by default?

Buckets are private to the bucket owner and the org admin by default. Everyone in the org can see the bucket list but only bucket owner, the org admin, the folks bucket is shared with can read/write to the bucket. This is regarding private buckets.

What happens if the owner leaves the fly.io organization?

Org admin still has full access to the bucket.

Are fly.io admin able to access all buckets regardless of sharing?

Yes org admins are able to access all buckets within their org regardless of sharing.

This feels like it could complicate management even further. Buckets shouldn’t be owned by any individual user, they should be owned by the organization.

Please let us know if you have further questions.

Thanks!
Jigar
