First of all, thank you for building such a great platform. We’ve been running our production Phoenix application on Fly.io and have been very happy with the experience. Deployment, operations, and the overall developer experience have been excellent.
I’d like to make a case for adding a Seoul (ICN) region.
Our primary motivation isn’t latency. We’ve been able to achieve excellent performance for Korean users.
The bigger challenge is regulatory compliance.
As a Korean B2B SaaS company, many of our enterprise customers ask whether personal data is processed or stored outside of Korea. Because our application runs in the Tokyo (NRT) region, we need to disclose cross-border processing of personal data under Korean privacy regulations. This often results in additional legal reviews and procurement discussions.
I suspect many other Korean SaaS companies face the same situation. A Seoul region would make Fly.io a much easier choice for organizations that need to satisfy domestic data residency or privacy requirements, especially in enterprise, finance, healthcare, and public-sector projects.
From our perspective, this isn’t really a performance request—it’s a compliance request. We’d much rather continue using Fly.io than migrate to another platform simply to satisfy customer or regulatory requirements.
Has a Seoul (ICN) region been considered? I’d be interested to hear whether there are technical or business constraints that make it difficult.
If a Seoul region ever becomes available, we’d be happy to help validate it or participate in a beta program. We’d gladly provide feedback from the perspective of a production Phoenix application running on Fly.io.
