We were in the middle of a deploy to production this morning when a maintenance caused an outage with the API, which wreaked havoc with our deploy, getting some machines stuck in a non-deployed state. We had no indication or notification prior to this moment that there was scheduled maintenance or that we should expect an interruption in service.
Why wasn’t this scheduled maintenance communicated via email or anywhere else? This is deeply concerning and is a loss of confidence issue.
Hi Cahlan, we’re actually in the process of revamping our status page and outage & maintenance communication, so this is helpful feedback. The maintenance was posted in advance of the event, and you could subscribe to notifications via your choice of medium by clicking the big blue button in the upper right corner. Still, it looks like that didn’t get the news in front of you. What could we do to be better at getting these types of updates in front of you?
Also, I’m a little surprised that a maintenance outage would cause API trouble (aside from interaction with the relevant region, of course). Could you say more about what you experienced? This might be a separate bug, which we’d like to investigate.
