RootFS Charges?

Based on my understanding, fly.io recently started charging for stopped machine RootFS, which means that if something I deploy on fly.io stops, it will start incurring charges. What I don’t understand is why my building machine is also included in the RootFS billing, as I understand it to be a machine generated each time I deploy.

Hi @BlackInk7777 !

We haven’t started billing for this and won’t until late April.

I can see the could be confusion since this is our usage page rather than a billing page. We will probably remove remote builders from that list then. Thanks for reaching out with your feedback.

I didn’t realize this was the case either… Is it safe to delete unused stopped builders or will that result on my app breaking?

Its very safe to delete stopped builders, we will provision then whenever needed. We even delete them if you don’t deploy for some time.

But don’t worry about it, builders don’t add charges

I’ve blasted the builders out of this page, hopefully it will prevent confusion!

btw . In this introductory text :
Usage is only calculated for stopped machines
, if your machine is running 24/7 you don’t have to calculate anything, RootFS is already included on the price you already pay for running machines regardless of how much you use it.
But…

From yesterday to today, I saw that the Time stopped usage of RootFS increased by one day, but my machine has never stopped. Does this mean it is considered a stopped machine?

Hi @BlackInk7777 there’s an error on our preview job:

We will ship the fix soon!
