I am not sure I understand the business model here. You may find it easier to run a site at low cost and on a hobbyist basis, and plan for it always to cost you a bit of money. Moreover, the aphorism “build it and they will come” is usually false on the internet; you can build it, and then find users don’t understand your proposition. Or you can build it but users don’t like it. Or you can build it and find the market is already well catered-for (e.g. with Pinterest or Upwork or Fiverr).
The other note I’d make is that Fly is a platform for software engineers on which software can be built and hosted. If this is a volunteer project, then you might get a bit of help, but you probably need to design the architecture and set up an MVP. (Admittedly we have some vibe-coders here, but they usually get to a certain complexity point, their AI gives up on them, and they’re stuck with a badly-written and unmaintainable project that is stuck at the 80% mark).
So, you’ll almost certainly get no interest in your message as it stands; readers will regard it as a request for free labour. But if you can create a compelling project that has a substantial community-interest angle, then you might find some volunteers eventually. I fear you’ll just have to get coding in the meantime!
Right. I am not an AI expert by any means, and I am cynical about the techbros’ lack of care about the societal impact of their work. For what it is worth, I think AI can do some greenfield code authoring for simple problems, but getting it to write a whole app isn’t there yet. Fortunately for me, the world still needs human software engineers.
