I’m running an app with primary\_region = “syd” and need to document data residency accurately for compliance under Australian privacy law.

I understand primary\_region determines where the machine runs. What I can’t find a clear answer on is machine logs:

1. Where are machine logs aggregated and stored? Same region as the machine, or centralised elsewhere?
2. Which jurisdiction are they held in?
3. How long are they retained by default?
4. Does the same apply to metrics and control plane data?

The reason I’m asking specifically is that our request logs include user identifiers and client IP addresses, which counts as personal information under Australian law. If those logs leave Australia we need to disclose it as a cross-border transfer, so I’d rather confirm than assume.

Happy to be pointed at documentation if this is written up somewhere I’ve missed.

Hello there!

Both logs and metrics are stored in the US at this time. Logs are retained for up to [7 days](https://fly.io/docs/monitoring/search-logs/) , while metrics stay for [15 days.](https://fly.io/docs/monitoring/metrics/#retention-cost-and-limits)

A similar question was answered [here](https://community.fly.io/t/where-are-platform-logs-stored-for-an-nrt-app-data-residency-follow-up-to-a-closed-thread/28598/2), for your reference.
