You can now fork your Managed Postgres v2 clusters. Forking is almost as fast as v2 cluster creates (well almost, its a tiny bit slower). Its MUCH faster than a full backup restore.
In your v2 dashboard, you’ll now see a button to fork your cluster.
Forks have some caveats for now
- Your backup history doesn’t carry over to the fork
- Large clusters may take a bit of time to hydrate. You can access your cluster during hydration, but reads may be a tiny bit slower. Your dashboard will show a banner when the cluster is still hydrating.
- Its not available in
flyctlyet (but will be, soon, hang tight!) - And well, its still in beta
