Is it normal to be charged $14USD in just 4 days of ZERO activity?

As the title says. My spider senses are telling me these charges are way off the charts?
My server had literally ZERO activity and was just sitting on the default deployment machines. Yet it racked up over $14 in just 4 (3days + actually)? Thats more than a month’s bill compared to hetzner??

Is this normal? Do I have a case to fight?

Contact billing and they should waive this accidental fee. Look at your billing dashboard to see what resource you’re spinning up. Most likely you’ve created excess volume/compute that you’re not aware of… or it could be a bug w/ their billing (unlikely)

You have to provide more details of your setup.

okays, i raise a case to billing and see how it goes!

Fly usually waives accidental charges like this one.

When creating machines, make sure they get stopped when there’s no activity. By adding auto_stop_machines to your fly.toml and keeping min_machines_running set to 0, they will be shut down when inactive.

Regarding the charge, that seems correct. I don’t recall what are Fly’s defaults but I think they create 3 performance machines for high availability if the production option is selected. Looking at their pricing page, a performance-1x machine with 4GB costs 0.0570/hour. If the default was used and it created 3 machines, then that’s 0.171/hour if the machines were never stopped.

If it ran for 4 days, then that’s 96 hours, so 96 * 0.171 would mean a $16.416 charge.

yae that was it. Thankfully fly waived the charges for me after contacting them via email. It was an interesting lesson learnt
