# Got charged on the free plan

tldr and to the points

- Sign up
- Account put on hold.
- Verifies using the free plan.
- thought would only be charged 0
- got charged around 4$
- was not expecting that lol

Hmm, I thought that bills under 5USD are waived. I believe you can drop a line to [billing@fly.io](mailto:billing@fly.io), and someone will sort you out.

Typically this just a preliminary test charge, rather than the real thing:

Aside: In my opinion, it’s best for people to think of this as the Pay as You Go plan, since it’s more of a non-commitment plan than a freebies tier, 😅…

Hey, i got charged immediately, even before the deployment, so i dont think its a pay as you go thing, i was not able to deploy.

The immediate charge is probably the preauthorization (from the quote above).

You can email the address that @halfer cited if you do want certainty.

The aside was a passing comment on the use of the phrase “free plan” in the thread title. There’s been a lot of confusion in recent months of people looking for a free tier that they heard was here, 🍥, but that no longer exists in reality…
