Traffic from Google Fiber residential service in Austin, TX (AS16591) to Fly’s shared anycast IPv4 consistently lands on the syd edge - every request from Texas crosses the Pacific twice to reach apps in ord.
Evidence (2026-08-29, reproducible on demand):

- Ping to my app’s shared anycast IP (
66.241.125.208): 188-191ms steady. Same connection, for comparison: Cloudflare anycast ~10-25ms; Fly’s ord2.gateway.6pn.dev (unicast) ~30ms min. The last mile is fine and unicast to ord is fast - only Fly anycast goes to Australia.

- Traceroute shows Google Fiber handing off to Hurricane Electric, which carries the prefix trans-Pacific:

- No IPv6 on this connection, so no v6 escape hatch.
Impact: my apps (real-time game servers over WebSocket) run in ord; this route adds ~160ms over the direct path, and any loss shows up as multi-hundred-ms TCP stalls. I can work around it for development with a WireGuard tunnel pinned to the ord gateway, but ordinary users of the apps on this ISP can’t.
Ask: is this a known anycast advertisement / peering issue between HE and Fly for this prefix? Happy to run more diagnostics from this vantage point.
I don’t have Google Fiber, but my ISP is also routing to syd edge when I would expect it to go to ord or dfw.

The traceroute from my hotspot is not very successful, but I can confirm that the fly-request-id when on my Verizon hotspot does end in -ord, like expected.
