Do Sprites receive Ubuntu security updates?

If after I create a Sprite, Ubuntu or some other software that’s on the Sprite’s base image releases a security update, do already created Sprites automatically receive it? If so, when: do they need to go to sleep and then wake or go through some other state change?

or do we need to run apt get upgrade our selves?
