I am struggling keeping the machines alive. They time out after 5 minutes.

What is the message in the logs (fly logs) when they time out? The 7-day trial has an undocumented 5-minute limit, from what I’ve heard…

It’s not autostop feature that’s stopping your machine. If you check your app’s logs (flyctl logs) you should see something like this:

Trial machine stopping. To run for longer than 5m0s, add a credit card by visiting https://fly.io/trial.

Right… The “Fly host software” in the middle of that sequence is the Pilot that @rubys linked to.

Enter Pilot, our new init.

every user-defined process runs in a container. The term “container” is used somewhat loosely, but more precisely: it implements the OCI Runtime spec.

(This is init in the sense of PID 1.)
