Bigger data volumes for your MPG

To keep you and our compute hosts happy, we impose a 500GB limit on Fly Volumes. This is to ensure sane resource sharing. Many of our hosts have ~8TB of storage. If we allowed arbitrarily large volumes (say 3TB+), a small number of customers can easily cannibalise an entire host.

Managed Postgres uses Fly Volumes under the hood and therefore has this same 500GB restriction. Recently, some of our customers blasted through their 500GB limit. We expect one day you will too! And so in response to that, we’ve upped the 500GB limit to 1TB for Managed Postgres. This was a straightforward change to our system, it’s just a set of configuration. Additionally, we’re able to expand the storage capacity of the underlying hosts if need be to keep resource sharing sane.

P.S, Managed Postgres auto-expands the size of your volume when it reaches 75% capacity. So start off small (save costs!), and we’ll take care of the rest.

That’s great! BTW, are there any plans to increase the limit for normal Fly Volume as well? (Just curious, I don’t need it right now)

Not at the moment but if you’re in desperate need for it to be made larger, just write in to support.
